With a Voice inbox your team makes and answers phone calls in the browser. You buy a phone number in Commslayer or bring a US number you already own. Every call is saved as a conversation. Recorded calls and voicemails come with the recording, a transcript and an AI call summary.
Voice is billed by usage, so it needs a current paid plan. It isn't available on the Free plan or legacy plans.
Create a Voice integration inbox
-
Go to Settings

-
Under Channels click Inboxes

-
Click on Add inbox

-
Select Voice as the channel type

-
Give the inbox a name, set the Monthly spending limit and pick the Country of the number. The limit is prefilled at $50 and applies to this number only. You can change it later in Settings → Usage & billing.

-
When you select the phone number, you will see rates for that phone number. Transcripts and AI call summaries are included in the cost, you can see detailed rates by clicking View all rates.

-
Click Create phone inbox.

-
Add the agents who should handle calls. Only agents added to a Voice inbox can make and answer calls, and administrators need to be added too. An incoming call rings every added agent whose status is online and who has Commslayer open in the browser.
Port your existing US number
You can move a US number you already own to Commslayer. Only US numbers that aren't toll-free can be ported. For any other number, buy a new number in Commslayer.
Porting needs a current paid plan, the same as buying a number.
-
Go to Settings → Inboxes → Add inbox → Voice.
-
Give the inbox a name and set the Monthly spending limit.
-
Choose United States as the Country, then Port your existing number.
-
Enter the Number to port and click Check. The app tells you whether the number can be ported.
-
Fill in Current carrier details exactly as they appear on your latest phone bill: who owns the account, Name on the account, Account number, Transfer PIN if your carrier uses one, Account telephone number, the Authorized representative and the Representative email.
-
Enter the Service address your carrier has on file.
-
Under Proof of ownership, upload a recent bill from your current carrier that shows the account holder and the number. PDF, PNG or JPEG, up to 10 MB.
-
Click Submit port request.
After you submit:
-
The authorized representative gets an email with a letter of authorization to sign online. The port continues once it's signed. If it isn't signed within 30 days, the request expires and you submit it again.
-
Porting usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. Your number keeps working with your current carrier until the switch happens.
-
The request shows in Settings → Inboxes as Porting followed by your number. Open it to see the status: In review, Waiting for signature, In progress, Action needed or Expired. While it waits for the signature, the same screen has a link to sign.
-
When the port completes, Commslayer creates the Voice inbox and emails your administrators. Add your agents to the inbox. The number's monthly fee starts from then.
-
To stop a port that hasn't completed, click Cancel port. Your number stays with your current carrier.
