Commslayer gives you two ways to send WhatsApp marketing:
-
Campaigns are one-off sends to a segment. Think a restock announcement or a sale
-
Automations run on their own when something happens to an order. Think a review request the day after delivery
Both live in the Marketing section, and admins and managers can set them up.
What you need first
-
A connected WhatsApp number. See How to connect WhatsApp to Commslayer
-
A payment method in Meta, because Meta bills for these messages. See How to add a payment method to WhatsApp
-
An approved template. See How WhatsApp templates work
-
Customers with WhatsApp marketing consent, as you can only send marketing messages with consent. See How WhatsApp marketing consent and message frequency work
Segments: choose who you're talking to
Every campaign goes to a segment, a group of customers defined by rules like total spent or last order date. Customers who match are added automatically, so you don't have to maintain a list. To set one up, see How to create customer segments.
Campaigns: send one message to a segment
-
Go to Marketing → Campaigns and create a new campaign
-
Name it and pick a segment. Commslayer shows how many of those contacts can get WhatsApp marketing messages
-
Pick a template and fill in its variables. Only approved templates are listed, and templates that need order data can't be used in campaigns
-
Pick a date and time to schedule it, or leave the date empty to keep it as a draft
-
Click Save
To send a draft, open it from the Campaigns list and click Send now.
How to read a campaign report
Open a campaign to see its Audience, Sent, Failed and Suppressed counts. Suppressed means Commslayer skipped that contact on purpose, for one of these reasons:
-
No marketing consent: the customer hasn't opted in to WhatsApp marketing
-
Sending limit reached: the customer hit your message frequency limit
-
No phone number: there's no number to send to
Automations: messages that run on their own
An automation starts when an order event happens:
-
Order placed
-
Order shipped
-
Out for delivery
-
Order delivered
-
Order canceled
-
Order refunded
The quickest way to start is Use a recipe on Marketing → Automations. There are four: order confirmation, shipping update, delivery review (waits a day, then sends a message) and refund notice.
To build your own:
-
Click Create automation and give it a name
-
Under Starts when, pick the trigger
-
Add your steps. Send message sends a template, Wait pauses before the next step, and a branch sends customers down different paths based on conditions, like order value
-
Save it, then turn it on with the toggle
You can see if messages are being sent in the Sent log.
Automations follow the marketing rules
This one catches people out. Every message an automation sends counts as marketing, even the shipping update recipe. It only reaches customers with marketing consent, and it counts toward your message frequency limit.
If you want shipping and delivery messages to reach every customer, use order updates instead. Those don't need marketing consent. See How WhatsApp order updates work.
