Add your DNS records

Two DNS records prove to email providers that Commslayer is allowed to send on your behalf. Without them, your replies land in spam or don't send at all.

Add them after you've created your email inbox.

The two records

Commslayer shows both on screen as soon as you create an inbox.

Your values are unique to your domain. Copy them from your own screen — not from this guide, and not from another store's setup.

Record Type Name Value
DKIM TXT Looks like xxxxxxxx._domainkey A long string
Return-Path CNAME Looks like pm-bounces Shown in Commslayer

Leave TTL at its default for both.

Add them at your DNS host

Your DNS host is wherever your domain is registered or managed. That's often a different company from your email provider.

Verify

Go back to Commslayer and click Verify. Records usually verify within a few minutes, but can take up to 48 hours to propagate.

Two things to watch:

  • Most hosts append your domain automatically. If you paste the full name yourself you end up with pm-bounces.yourstore.com.yourstore.com, which won't verify.

  • On Cloudflare, set the proxy to "DNS only" (the grey cloud) for both records.

Next

Set up forwarding at your email provider, then send a test email.
