Two DNS records prove to email providers that Commslayer is allowed to send on your behalf. Without them, replies from a Standard setup inbox land in spam or don't send at all. Gmail quick setup inboxes don't use these records, because Google sends that email.
Add them after you've created your email inbox.
The two records
Commslayer shows both on screen as soon as you create an inbox.
Your values are unique to your domain. Copy them from your own screen — not from this guide, and not from another store's setup.
-
DKIM: a TXT record. The name looks like
xxxxxxxx._domainkeyand the value is a long string -
Return-Path: a CNAME record. The name looks like
pm-bouncesand the value is shown in Commslayer
Leave TTL at its default for both.
Add them at your DNS host
Your DNS host is wherever your domain is registered or managed. That's often a different company from your email provider.
Verify
Go back to Commslayer and click Verify. Records usually verify within a few minutes, but can take up to 48 hours to propagate.
Each record shows Verified or Inactive. If you left the setup screen, go to Settings → Inboxes and click Resume on the inbox (Manage once setup is finished). The records and the Verify button are there until both records are verified.

Two things to watch:
-
Most hosts append your domain automatically. If you paste the full name yourself you end up with
pm-bounces.yourstore.com.yourstore.com, which won't verify. -
On Cloudflare, set the proxy to "DNS only" (the grey cloud) for both records.
Adding a second inbox on the same domain
DNS records belong to your domain. A second inbox on a domain you've already verified shows the same two records, already marked Verified, and you don't add anything.
The new inbox still has its own forwarding address, so it needs its own forwarding rule at your email provider.
Next
These two records only cover sending. To receive email, set up forwarding at your email provider, then send a test email.

Don't change your MX records. Commslayer doesn't receive mail through MX.
